The President José Mujica spoke about inflation on the radio. He said “there will not be uncontrolled inflation in Uruguay”.
In this way he confirmed what he has mentioned in previous occasions. Mujica said it is necessary to take action now, when the situation can be managed. He also said that even though there are no instant fixes, there are tools available especially at the moment when “the Uruguayan economy is doing well in its most important matters”. “New techniques and good decisions are needed, without going to the extremes of theories. All theories have something useful.”
The President stated that an inflation rate of %80 was reduced to a %8 and this process started in 1972 until 1998. “Those were 26 years of struggle for a lot of people. The Uruguayans struggled but came through. I will say it one more time: the inflation will not happen.”
